At CrossFit MASS, Joe focuses on tailoring training for client’s individual needs, abilities and goals. Joe has also continuously trained in Chinese martial arts since 1992. Since 2001, he has been one of only a few authorized instructors in the Ch’iang Shan Ba Gua Zhang Association.
Joe received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1990.
A member of CrossFit MASS since its inception, Alessandra has built up nearly a decade of first-hand knowledge and experience to share with her athletes. Alessandra was a high school athlete who turned to CrossFit as a way to up her game. The combination of personalized programming plus group classes that offered varied training modalities ultimately landed her on the varsity soccer team, just a year after she was cut from junior varsity. In fact, tryouts for the varsity team felt “easy”. This left her with no doubt of the power of CrossFit.
Alessandra works hard to understand and appreciate each individual’s personal journey. Whether you are training to compete, gearing up for a Spartan race, or trying to maintain a consistent, productive routine even with a busy personal and professional schedule, her goal is to help you reach yours. A hallmark of her coaching style is not letting you get caught up in what you can’t do, but celebrating what you can do. You’ll make gains quickly and safely.
Known for a hard work ethic, positive attitude, and drive to continue learning, Alessandra is an integral member of CrossFit MASS. Her fascination with coffee, cats, and boy bands only adds to her charm. She holds Level 1 CrossFit and CrossFit Kids certifications, and has attended multiple workshops in Olympic Weightlifting, Kettlebell, and Clean and Snatch.
I came to CrossFit MASS originally as a client with very limited mobility and significantly deteriorated physical ability due to an undiagnosed autoimmune disease. After several very frustrating years unsuccessfully training with personal trainers, I decided I’d give CrossFit a shot.
I’ll be honest: I was skeptical as to whether or not CrossFit was for me. I’d seen all sorts of videos of workouts on YouTube, watched CrossFit competitions and listened to my husband tell me about the workout he’d just finished. It didn’t seem like something a mere mortal could think of doing, much less someone like me who’d been sick for years, deconditioned and overweight. Joe Venuti’s approach to scaling workouts and progressions of movements made CrossFit accessible to me. His programming and coaching led me to see improvements in strength, stamina and endurance within the first month. With the support of everyone at CrossFit MASS, I continued to challenge myself and was able to achieved my weight loss goals. Joe’s passion for helping others and CrossFit is infectious and the results are undeniable. Within six months I went from barely being able to walk up all the stairs in my home to dancing around the gym. As a professionally trained dancer, being able to move again gave me my life back.
My background in dance, my experience teaching body movement and my own personal journey give me a unique perspective in CrossFit and I’m excited to share my enthusiasm and belief in the CrossFit methodology with you. Whether you’re preparing to run an obstacle race, striving for weight loss, interested in strength training, challenging your current fitness routine or looking for a way to reclaim your health and fitness so you can more confidently perform day to day tasks like picking up your children or unloading groceries, I believe CrossFit MASS will help you.
Dena returned to CrossFit MASS in 2016 after nearly three years in Colorado where she coached at Colorado Springs CrossFit and CrossFit 6035. During her first tour of duty with CrossFit MASS, Dena earned her Level 1 and then her CrossFit Kids certifications. Since then, she hasn’t stopped learning and developing as a coach. Dena is a student of healthy nutrition and the development of muscles and movement. It’s important to her that she succeeds at helping you optimize your workout while keeping an eye on proper form and technique.
Introduced to CrossFit soon after having her first child – at a time when her workouts had plateaued, and all the popular diets failed – Dena became a believer in the system. As she learned the principles of CrossFit and the value of the Paleo diet, the stubborn baby weight came off, almost 50 pounds of it during her first year, and she saw incredible changes in body composition and strength. Admittedly, Dena was apprehensive at first – she had never lifted more than a 15-pound dumbbell – but the support, education, and motivation she received at CrossFit MASS empowered her to safely and steadily progress through each challenge, one at a time.
Today, you can catch Dena powering through muscle-ups, tackling double-unders and taking pride in her 305-pound deadlift – a personal record. She is a huge promoter of rallying the troops around team building activities like an afternoon hike or competitions for charity. The only thing we love more than her passion and competitive spirit is her huge smile!
Greg brings a lifetime of experience and intensity to everything he does: the retired Navy Senior Chief is competitive in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and the Kettlebell sport “Girevoy”, is a full time firefighter in Saugus, MA and also the lead of CrossFit MASS’ Striking program. He is eager to help everyone learn good form and proper technique and excels at motivating you when you’re having a rough time pushing through a workout. He loves spicy food and if you really want to see him work (and sweat) you should see him at a Brazillian steakhouse.

Kris has been with CrossFit MASS for six years and continued his CrossFit training while deployed to Iraq as a US Marine. We’re fortunate Kris is able to share his time with us in addition to his duties as a North Andover Fire Fighter and new father.
He’s a huge fan of “constantly varied” and holds certificates in CF Kettlebell, Olympic lifting and Strongman as well as CFL1. He enjoys helping athletes of all levels achieve their fullest potential.
Mike has been a CrossFit MASS athlete for five years. His interests in health and fitness vary: as an engineer, he loves gaining in depth knowledge of mobility, flexibility, nutrition and movement. Mike’s favorite lift is the overhead squat and he’s the go-to guy for help with double and triple unders. His least favorite goat is strict handstand push-ups.
